Oh, to be STRONG…

But how??  Wouldn’t it be nice to live and work and have fun from a place of strength?!  Wouldn’t it be great to not feel the weight of struggling against weaknesses and failures?  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be strong?!!
Well, I’m not sure that’s actually a good thing all the time (if we rely on our own strength too much, we can forget that we are people in need of others and in need of God), but overall, I’m with you.  I’d like to live from a place of strength too.  In this broken and hurting world, strength to carry on well is not in great supply.
There is a way, however, that we can add to our strength.  In the Bible it says, “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).  If we find the Lord to be our joy… If we find our joy in the Lord… If we can take the Lord’s joy in…  Then we will have renewed strength.
Of course, the opposite is also true.  If we look to gain strength in other places or we think we can find it within ourselves, then we will miss this strength to fill our lives and enable us to live in ways that are full and good.  We will continually search, but we will not find; and life will be fought from weakness.
There are a few places where I get to experience the “joy of the Lord”, but by far the best is that time when I am with other believers and we share our lives with one another.  That is one of my favorite things about our fellowship!  And it is in this joy that I gain strength.  May His joy be yours today as well.
